Hello there…

Aubrey here…

I just want to take a moment tell you that we are having another
event for Andrew Tolentino and Mike Arreaga (of the Peep Show
currently in our gallery) on Wed. the 13th of May.

TARTUFI is going to be playing a show that night. They were named the best band of San
Francisco last year, and we are honored to have them playing at space!
Andrew and Mike will have more work on the walls that night and going to be
creating art here for you! Mike will be screen printing t shirts, and
cards with a custom design. Andrew will be breaking and painting skateboards:
your’s, his, people who just happen to skate by…. whoever!

It’s going to be a fun night, so come by and if your friends
weren’t able to come to the opening, do bring them out!

Tartufi is said to be “part aggressive, experimental-noise rock,
part delicate and lovely melody and completely awesome” by the
Omaha Reader.

Goes well with Deerhoof, Explosions In The Sky,
Animal Collective, The Golden Bears.

“Tartufi knows what they’re doing… The San Francisco duo uses
complex song structures to build what can only be described as
sonic collages, employing unusual instrumentation and dynamic
shifts to achieve a rolling-river feel to the songs. Each song
on the disc takes its time in establishing the mood (there’s
only one song under five minutes), and there’s a sense of
continuity between the songs… Even better, the individual
songs are strong examples of craftsmanship… Us Upon Buildings
Upon Us is a success. You might not be able to dance to it, but
you’ll enjoy it nonetheless.”

Needless to say these cats are amazing. Come out to see us,
listen to the sweet sounds of Tartufi, and create some art. You
won’t be disappointed!

All starts at 9P.M! I’ll see you here!

-Aubrey

Wire Bending Wednesdays

January 13, 2009 · 1 Comment

Art parties in SPACE each Wednesday 7p-Midnight
(starting tomorrow)

This is where you get to help the current artist showing in the gallery make their art. Until March its the wire bending magical warrior of light GEORGE FOWLER who is updating his “Beautiful Delusion” installation with new pieces every two weeks. Nearly half of his work has been sold thus far… and our next artist DANIEL PEREZ (THE-MULTI-MEDIA-DIMENSION-ROCKYOURVORTEX-another sister’s brother’s ARTIST) His first solo show will be in the gallery next on March 7th.

Assemble the visions and breathe life into some ambitious productions of local artists while you watch a movie and learn how it’s done… or, what inspired them. It’s a cool place to be yourself, grab a tool, paint brush, slice of pizza and beer or soda… and do something creative. Oh, and… you might make some art and or some new friends along the way while your at it. In the end you can know… it’s not a secret…you were a part of the “bigger picture”.

Being a part of a Bigger Picture

January 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

1/7/09 7pm-12pm
Please bring your friends and join us this Wednesday at Space…Free Pizza, Beer, and Atmosphere. We’ll be playing movies on the projector while we work. Wear something you don’t mind getting grease on :) and come ready to share good vibes.

Great News! George Fowler’s show has been a huge success… and it has also brought together a community of people with a common goal-to be a part of an organic creative process where everyone is equal in joining their efforts and energies to help support each other. These times are finding us looking for a place to experience the power of serving others… and in SPACE… everyone has a place.

This season of incubation belongs to local artist George Fowler. Over 20 people have helped him bend and cut wire to create the “Beautiful Delusion” exhibit. It’s still growing and will continue to have stages of additional works added to his modular creation. We are celebrating each of the galleries stages of progress with a party. This will continue until his closing reception is held on March 5, 2009. George’s next stage of progress will be relieved with THE BLACK HEART SOCIETY performing at 9PM Friday, January 16th… in the gallery.

Below is clip I found of Fred playing the tambourine at a BLACK HEART SOCIETY show I attended at Club Dada in ‘06. Ben has a different line up playing with him now, however… I’ll always remember this as my one of my favorite shows… thus far.

Fowler’s installation opened on December 19th with Telegraph Canyon (see video at end of post). They filled the gallery with good vibes.. and set the stage for what has become an experience many are wanting to share with their friends. George is also sharing the process of creating with many who will be able to see their contributions on the walls of a”Beautiful Delusion“.

So to all those who want to be a part of group effort to support a local artist and don’t mind getting a little ditry… and/or want to give back… and/or see how metal work is created..and/or want to help see George reach a destination… that from here looks like the possibility of a “SOLD OUT SHOW”… come see us Wednesday night.

Cash is also celebrating her 6th Birthday with those who are up for some tail scratching!!

-a portion of the proceeds from the metal works is being set aside for our friend Scrapiron…Please keep him in your thoughts as he isn’t responsive lately… and is still in ICU @ Parkland Hosp.

Last Night in the Gallery

November 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ricardo spoke about his art and a few of the many messages that are in each canvas.

He spoke of love, evolving as a species, and the art of healing.

We decided to keep his installation up in the gallery until December 1st in hopes that more of the public can experience his series of over sized canvases.

Please contact me to schedule a viewing at 214-476-9297 or email me at hal (at) halsamples (dot) com

After witnessing peoples responses to his work I’m grateful for not giving up on the dream to have a place like this.

Many thanks for your support and I hope to see you soon.

=)

Peace to you,

Hal

My Birthday present to myself…

November 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

… has been surrounding myself with the art of Ricardo Paniaqua Garcia III for the past couple of weeks.

We will be celebrating the works of art created by Ricardo Paniaqua Garcia III for his first solo show “REBELATION” tomorrow night in the gallery from 6-9p.

This mans work is very important… and it’s my belief that he will be recognized as one of the greatest artist to come from Dallas in the years to come. He is a really huge inspiration to me and I am truly grateful to know him… and his spirit. The messages coming from his pieces are powerful and only to be experienced in person.

He has added a couple of additional over sized works to the show since the opening and also has a large collection of “candy art” for the masses upstairs in SPACE.

Ricardo will be speaking about his work to the public for the first time this Friday.

Please join me for fellowship, art and drinks tomorrow night from 6-9pm and support your local art scene!
