Scrapiron… is your friend

December 23, 2008 · 5 Comments

This is my friend Scrapiron. He has been a musician on the streets of Dallas and Austin for years. We’ve been able to experience some incredible moments together… yet, today he isn’t doin so well.

He was really sick a couple of weeks ago and Keith took him to Baylor. They said that he had an infection in his lungs and gave him meds and released him within three hours. Three days later… he wasn’t able to breathe and was taken to Parkland. They did routine surgery to allow his lungs to drain and under the knife he lost his heart rate. Today he has brain damage and the hospital is looking to release him to a nursing home hospice situation.

Keith and I will find out more about what his social worker has in store for him tomorrow. There is no family who will be able to provide him the proper rehabilitation or aftercare… so, we are investigating options at the moment.

Please take few minutes or return later to watch the videos of him, pray for him, his health, and for us to find Scrapiron a place to go once the hospital releases him.

This was the first time I met him… and he told me if he could have anything in the world it would be to have two or three microphones set to different tones and a room full of people

This is when he got his wish.. and made many others dreams come true at the Granada in Feb 2007

Scrapion in SPACE

this was from earlier today…Keith sings him the same song back and he responds to the music

and this is what the magic of music does for this mans soul

this is a longer piece from the first time I met him…

Stay tuned for updates… and thank you for your love, energy, prayers and support for our friend… Scrapiron.

Peace to you.

George Fowler Show

December 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

George Fowler was born on the kitchen floor of a small ranch house in east Texas. In his younger and more formative years George frequented primeval wilderness areas around the world. This caused much of his notions concerning spirituality and awe to be closely associated with the natural world. George believes in the Constructivist notion that art should be based on spiritual expression. A practical background in mechanical engineering can be seen in much of his work. George frequently visits the theme of mechanical elements made beautiful. This is his first solo show and his third year as a professional artist. George has been seen earlier throughout the year at Kettle Art, Space Studio, Studio Fling, Town Square and with the Dallas Nomads.
Two main themes in my work are the synchronicity of disparate elements as well as the contrast of beauty and relative permanence metal affords the sculptor. The piece “Blood in the Resin” incorporates both of these principals. Several layers of metal wire interlace to create the form of a beautiful but intense female representation. Any one of the layers alone would be random abstraction. Seen as a unit, they transcend their humble origins for a loftier goal. The final layer of acrylic resin resounds the negative space and breathes life into cold metal. The metal and thus stable nature of the piece stands in stark contrast to the fleeting illusory beauty of the young woman. In this way the alchemical transformation of base metals into illustrative gold is achieved.

We’re having a party to celebrate George’s amazing work and his first solo show. Come out and see Hal, Cash, and George, December 19; 6 pm until 10 pm. george-fowler-postcard2
