Above was taken in 2004

This one was taken over the weekend.
Both shots are of flies resting directly behind my computer monitor on a window ledge.
I’m sure this kinda stuff happens to most of us. Quirky things… that get our attention. I’m just one of those who has a camera handy.

I’ve felt like there is a lil more than serendipity following me around these days. I have too many lil “God winks” when I am on the right path.
In the last few weeks, I have been running into some (4) of our neighbors I photographed in the beginning.
Dewayne was the VERY FIRST homeless friend I shared time with… and this man pretty much convinced me to do what were doing today. In the 2nd photo below, Dewayne is leaning in my passenger side window giving me the “omg, how have you been” routine. I mean he was sincere, but…
My assistant and gallery operator Desi, was riding with me as well. Its a good thing because leaning in my drivers side window was a police officer. He told me he was going to have to write me up for giving Dewayne some change. I spared him the story and was … I was more freaked out I guess…. I simply said, “I could tell you Dewayne’s whole story and how he came from San Fransisco and… and I might shock you a bit if I go on.” Shock you? What the heck was I thinking… was I about to hop out and pull a David Blaine? The officer accepted my plea and explained how I was being let off this time, etc. Magic?
Below is one of the very first images of Dewayne at a Starbucks…. and again, the second one is when he was leaning in my car window the other day.

The next image is Dewayne be shewed away by a second officer as she waved he radio at him not to step up on the corner. This was when it was time for me to go.

When I we got back to the gallery, Desi and took out the trash and sat down for a bite at the desk in the front window… while another friend of mine (from 5 years back) was pouring our half drank soda bottles into one. (they were the Cokes and thats why there was still some left)

I’m no doctor however, it doesn’t take much time, with either of these guys, to figure out they have mental illness issues. And there is a difference in between a copper thief and a can man. When Bernie was finished, he tide our trash bags and put everything back the way it was… and continued on.
